What Is Tech Wool? The Fabric Behind the Torr and the Arkle
Every Ghillie wool piece carries the same fabric: Tech Wool. It is our own blend, developed over two years for the Torr Wool Gilet and now carried through to the Arkle Wool Jacket. This is what it is, plainly.
The blend is 60% wool, 32% polyester, 3% acrylic, 3% polyamide, 2% viscose. Natural fibres first. The synthetic share is there for three reasons and three reasons only: it adds durability, it holds shape through years of wear, and it keeps the cloth stable through daily use that would slowly pull a pure wool apart.
We looked for this fabric before we built it. It did not exist at the weight and hand feel we wanted, so it took two years of sampling to get right. The result is a cloth that feels like proper wool, wears like workwear, and comes back season after season looking like itself.
What the Wool Share Does
Warmth that adjusts
Wool holds warmth when you stand still and releases it when you move. A day outside is both, over and over. That is the whole argument.
Quiet, in every sense
Wool does not rustle against other layers. It sits still, looks calm, and reads as considered anywhere from the shore to the street.
Fresh for longer
Wool resists odour naturally. Air it after wearing and it needs cleaning far less often than a synthetic. That is fewer washes, less wear, more years.
What we will not claim: Tech Wool is not waterproof and we do not sell it as technical performance fabric. It is warm, comfortable and hardwearing. On the wettest days it sits under a shell. That is the honest shape of it.
Every Fibre, and Why It Is There
- 60% wool. The warmth, the hand feel, the quiet. The reason the fabric exists.
- 32% polyester. Durability. It carries the daily wear a pure wool would slowly give up under.
- 3% acrylic. Loft and softness through the body of the cloth.
- 3% polyamide. Strength at the stress points: elbows, pockets, hem.
- 2% viscose. Drape. It is why the Torr and Arkle hang properly rather than standing off the body.
Two Garments, One Cloth
The Torr Wool Gilet came first: core warmth with free arms, in Peat and now Heather Green. The Arkle Wool Jacket followed in the same cloth, cut to sit over a flannel.
Worn together over a Brae Flannel or Munro Shirt they cover the year: gilet through autumn, jacket through winter, both built to be passed down.
Care is simple. Dry clean when needed, air between wears, store hung. The fabric does the rest.
