Why I Started
Ghillie.
It started with a problem that nobody seemed to want to solve. Outdoor clothing built for the outdoors, made by people who understood it, at a price that reflected the work.
I grew up in the Scottish countryside. Field sports, long walks, cold mornings — these were normal. What wasn't normal was being able to buy clothing for them that felt like it was made with any real understanding of what was needed. Most of what existed was either overpriced and over-branded, or cheap and disposable. Neither was right.
Ghillie came from wanting to fix that.
The Problem
The outdoor clothing market splits into two camps that have always felt wrong to me. On one side, technical activewear — designed for performance metrics, loaded with synthetic fabrics and priced for aspirational buyers. On the other, heritage brands coasting on their history, charging a premium for the name rather than the garment.
Somewhere in between, there was nothing. No one making proper field sports clothing — flannel shirts, wool gilets, waxed jackets — in natural materials, honest cuts and at a price that respected the buyer. That was the gap.
"I wanted to make the kind of clothing that ends up being worn every season for a decade — not discarded after two."
What Ghillie Stands For
The name comes from the Gaelic word for a guide — the person who knows the land, reads the conditions and makes the day work. That felt right. Not a brand built around marketing language, but one built around knowing what the work actually requires.
Every garment we make starts from a practical question: what does someone who spends real time outdoors actually need from this? Not what looks good in a catalogue. Not what gets clicks. What works — across seasons, across weathers, across years of hard use.
Natural Materials
Cotton, wool, waxed canvas. Materials that age well, repair easily and don't end up in landfill after a season.
Honest Pricing
We price for what the garment costs to make properly — not for what the market will bear if you add enough branding.
Proper Cuts
Designed for people who actually go outside — with room to move, layer and work without restriction.
Long-Term Thinking
Every garment we make should still be in use a decade from now. That's the standard we hold ourselves to.
Where We Are Now
Ghillie is still a small brand. That's deliberate. We are not trying to scale fast at the cost of what we make. Every piece in the collection has been thought about carefully — and we only add things when we are confident they meet the same standard as everything else.
If you have found us, it is probably because you were looking for something that wasn't easy to find. We hope we have found it for you.
